Gulab Jamun

I am starting to think that maybe memories are like this dessert. I eat it, and it becomes a part of me, whether I remember it later or not.

Memories – of summers at my grandparents’, and a dish full of Gulab Jamun waiting my every arrival.
Deep fried dough balls,(akin to donut holes) flavored with cardamom and saffron and immersed in (an often overly) sweet rose flavored syrup, this Indian dessert remains one of my favorites.
When I was young my grandmother would say “Only 1” when she served me these, perhaps to safeguard herself from a kid spiked in sugar ? And I apparently would beat her at her own game with my cuteness, asking and getting “Only 1” a few times a day until it was all eaten!
Memories somehow become a part of what you do. I always serve these, only 1 at a time. You can of course, always ask me for Only 1 more … several times 😀
