CHUTNEY
Also spelled “Chatney” or “Chatni,” chutney is a South Asian condiment. Spices and herbs are mixed with mashed fruit or vegetables and then simmered into a paste. A wide variety of combinations are possible, resulting in chutneys that can be sweet, spicy or even minty. – Yuto Tsukuda
Coconut cilantro chutney
Recipe
1. Grind together with water to form a coarse but pourable paste
1 cup grated coconut
1/3 cup pottu kadalai – roasted chana dal
2 medium serrano peppers or 4 green chilies
1 inch ginger
salt as per taste
1 small bunch cilantro
2. Season
Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil
Let splutter
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
Add and saute for a couple minutes
1 teaspoon urad dal
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
A few curry leaves
2 pinch of asafoetida
2 dry red chilis
